(Photo by Scott Halleran/Getty Images)The release of the college football bowl game schedule has led to a lot of interesting matchups, and the Texas A&M vs. NC State showdown in the Gator Bowl will be no exception.The Aggies in Jimbo Fisher’s first year at the helm went 8-4, good for second-place in the SEC West Division, but far behind Alabama. Nevertheless, Texas A&M claimed solid wins over ranked teams Kentucky and LSU, with the latter going to seven overtime periods.The Wolfpack were ultimately fodder for Clemson, but were otherwise one of the best teams in the ACC. Dave Doeren’s side finished the season 9-3 – their best regular season finish since 2002.Texas A&M will face NC State in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl from TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville.Here is ESPN’s prediction:Clemson is a common opponent and Texas A&M fared much better in defeat to the Tigers than NC State did. The Aggies also have two top-15 wins (LSU, Kentucky), while NC State’s record came against mostly weak competition. Quarterbacks Kellen Mond (Texas A&M) and Ryan Finley (NC State) both perform well, but coach Jimbo Fisher’s team owns the fourth quarter to finish 9-4.Prediction: Texas A&M 38, NC State 28Jimbo Fisher will be looking to get his Aggies a bowl win to make up for an otherwise lackluster season.Texas A&M and NC State are set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 31.The game will be on ESPN.last_img
