first_imgSwimmers including Stephanie Rice, Nick D’Arcy, Kenrick Monk, Bronte Barratt and Meagen Nay took to the Touch Football field for a bit of fun at Colley Reserve in Glenelg. The following story was published in Friday’s Adelaide Advertiser. Olympic Swimmer Stephanie Rice Proves A Dab Hand At Touch Football Too Stephanie Rice’s talent isn’t just limited to the pool. The glamour girl proved she’s got flair with the ball as well, showing off her skills in a game of touch footy with her teammates at Colley Reserve in Glenelg yesterday. With a record 10 swimmers from the Queensland-based St Peters Western club making the Australian Olympic team, head coach Michael Bohl organised the workout as a bit of fun after a successful week.”The meet is really finished for all our guys, so we thought we’d go down to the park and have a bit of a touch footy game and have some lunch,” Bohl said. The coach, who included a touch footy session every week until December, said the triple Olympic champion had grown into the sport.”Steph Rice, she’s probably the most improved, I reckon. She started out a bit of a gumby but she’s really got a liking for it,” Bohl said.”She is always down there mixing it with the best of them.”The crew were having such a good time, a few swimmers from different squads wandered down to join in.Bohl said some in particular had shown a bit of ability on the park.”Bronte Barratt’s got a lot of speed … and Meagen Nay is very good as well. She’s played a bit of it before and holds her own with the boys,” he said.”Ned McKendry has got a bit of talent, he’s a really fast runner … You’ve got to watch Nick D’Arcy, he gets a bit toey when he plays touch footy.”To view a photo gallery of the game, please click on the link below:http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/gallery/gallery-e6freye9-1226307339188?page=9 The swimmers aren’t the only ones that have been enjoying Touch Football, with former Miss Universe Australia, Rachael Finch, helping her Touch Football team to grand final victory in Sydney recently. “Thank you for all the good luck messages for our game today, we won our grand final 5-3!
