National Night Out is traditionally on the first Tuesday in August. The Committee says they do not want to cancel the program but in order to keep everyone safe they will require that masks be worn by everyone in attendance and that social distancing is practiced. They will have safety precautions in place and theyt will separate the picnic tables around Washington Park so there is distance between citizens and families during the evening and they will keep them separated for the usual Movie that they end the night with.Police Officers and Firefighters will be on location and they will interact in a safe way with all that attend. The Night Out Committee wants to thank all people that come out for the event every year and we look forward to seeing all of you again this year and ask everyone to help them have a safe event.last_img read more

first_imgWith so much unknown over the next few months, Garnar said he hopes to move forward, not backward. (WBNG) — As the number of coronavirus cases continues to dwindle in Broome County, officials are now focusing on keeping it that way. Garnar also touched upon gym reopenings; he said while the health department has never had to do inspections before, they will make sure to do them as timely as possible to allow local gyms to reopen the first day possible, Aug. 24. At his weekly COVID-19 update Wednesday, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said the total number of active cases in the county is now below 70. He said while there are still a lot of cases in long term care facilities, instances of community spread are down.center_img In addition to case numbers, Garnar focused a lot on school reopenings this fall, particularly Binghamton University. He said if an outbreak were to occur on campus, the county would largely focus on contact tracing and limiting the spread. “A success for me would be that we were able to work with school districts, colleges, businesses, and we’ve got safety protocols set in place knowing things are going to happen, knowing people will be infected, but that we can quickly respond and kind of cut off any kind of spread that will happen,” he told 12 News Wednesday.last_img read more
