Our 6 ‘Best Buys Now’ Shares “This Stock Could Be Like Buying Amazon in 1997” Peter Taberner | Thursday, 29th April, 2021 | More on: CWK GNC TATE Tate and Lyle (LSE:TATE) is one of my FTSE 250 top picks from the food producer market. My interest in investing in them has strengthened this week as the company has made the news, with the potential sale of its primary products division in order to concentrate on its food and beverage solutions.5G is here – and shares of this ‘sleeping giant’ could be a great way for you to potentially profit!According to one leading industry firm, the 5G boom could create a global industry worth US$12.3 TRILLION out of thin air…And if you click here we’ll show you something that could be key to unlocking 5G’s full potential…In effect it’s moving away from sweeteners such as corn syrup, to more health-conscious ingredients that replace sugars. It’s a move in line with shifting tastes, making the business more competitive, as the consumer is more aware of the dangers of too much sugar, such as type 2 diabetes. This why its share price should remain a bullish FTSE 250 investment for now.Its shares accelerated by c.6% soon after the news of the potential restructuring broke on April 26. Yet Tate and Lyle’s stock price has seen an impressive climb of c.30% over the past six months. The group’s trading statement confirmed an 8% rise in revenue, for the three months up to December 31.Additionally, a rise in profits up to the end of March for the year is expected, partly due to increased momentum in its food and beverage solutions.Greencore another FTSE 250 opportunityConvenience food producer Greencore (LSE:GNC) is another FTSE 250 investment I am keen on in this sector. This is despite a predictably difficult year due to the pandemic, as the food-to-go market has declined due to lockdown.Greencore has been hurt as it supplies its products, which range from salads to sushi, to convenience retailers such as coffee shops, and travel related outlets. Its trading statement revealed that food-to-go business has decreased by 21.7%, for the 13 weeks up to Christmas Day last year. However, the stock has climbed this year, after falling to 90p per share after the second lockdown began in November. And this comes as no surprise, as the food-to-go market should grow again this year with lockdown easing.Analysts Lumina Intelligence has forecast growth of c.32% during 2021, and that the UK food-to-go market will increase in value by £7.3 billion over the next three years. It’s a market that should remain bullish, providing me with a timely investment – unless there are major setbacks to lockdown easing, such as a dangerous Covid-19 variant. It’s not all cheer for food producersOne FTSE 250 investment I am less enthused about is in meat provider Cranswick (LSE: CWK), even though, due to increased home consumption, the company produced a resilient response to the pandemic. Its share price has been very up and down over the past year. Looking ahead, even though meat processing is expected to expand, there are several patterns that are expected to slow down the growth of meat processing. The pandemic has resulted in the closure of many high-street meat-serving outlets, with damage being caused to many businesses even if they still remain open.Additionally the popularity of vegetarianism and vegan diets are a threat to sales of meat in the short and longer term.In contrast, Tate and Lyle and Greencore focus on several markets that are set to develop, which makes them better options to dish up a sound FTSE 250 investment. first_imgWhat it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces Tim Cook took the helm of Apple on August 24, 2011. Since then, on average, Cook has increased Apple’s market value by $110 million a day. Its shares closed yesterday a hair above $461, up 23% over his tenure so far.Sure, it’s been a bit of a bumpy ride along the way — and a particularly painful one for those who purchased Apple stock last year in the neighborhood of $705, its all-time high. Fair enough. Yet the media, Wall Street — even Apple employees — seem to overlook a lot of what Cook has achieved. In its most recent quarterly earnings report, Apple posted record revenues, $54.5 billion, and record quarterly net profits, $13.1 billion. Apple sold a record number of iPhones for the quarter — 47.8 million. The company sold a record number of iPads for the quarter as well — 22.9 million.Apple generated over $23 billion in cash flow for this first quarter, an astounding number. Indeed, Apple has at least $137 billion in cash reserves. Long thought of as a US-focused company, international sales now account for 61% of Apple’s revenues. Apparently, this is not good enough. The drumbeat of negativity continues. Consider this sampling:The Last 6 Times Tim Cook Has Talked, Apple’s Stock Has DroppedWith Apple Profit Falling, Board Should Replace Tim Cook with Jony IveTim Cook Negligent on Defending Apple’s Share Price – Price Bordering on Perverse Ex-Apple Employee: I Worry That Tim Cook Is Too Nice Apple CEO Tim Cook’s approval rating dropsApple’s first quarter of negative income growth since 2003Following the legendary Steve Jobs is a difficult task. But despite Cook’s rather exemplary job running the world’s largest tech company, many insist upon viewing him in starkly negative terms.Tim Cook Stops The BuckCook has certainly faced his share of adversity, and he’s typically responded quickly and openly. When Apple was singled out for working conditions at its Chinese contractor Foxconn over the manufacture of iPhones and iPads, Cook made a highly public visit to the country. Cook also began working with the Fair Labor Association (FLA) to conduct audits of Apple suppliers, including Foxconn, stating that: We believe that workers everywhere have the right to a safe and fair work environment, which is why we’ve asked the FLA to independently assess the performance of our largest suppliers.Cook also stated that Apple’s suppliers were to provide full cooperation and “unrestricted access” to the FLA. Following blistering press over the flubbed launch of Apple Maps, Cook was contrite and open:At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better. In a corporate statement signed by Cook, he also stated the company’s ongoing commitment to meeting customer expectations — even suggesting users consider competing products:  While we’re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app. Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard.Cook has also sought to improve the environment inside Apple. One example: soon after being named CEO, Cook implemented a company charitable giving program at Apple. I am very happy to announce that we are kicking off a matching gift program for charitable donations. We are all really inspired by the generosity of our co-workers who give back to the community and this program is going to help that individual giving go even farther. Apple will match your gift dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000 annually.  Not long after the announcement, Cook donated $100 million of his own money — $50 million to Stanford Hospital and $50 million to Project RED, which works to combat the spread of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Last October, Cook announced significant management changes within Apple designed to enhance “collaboration” across Apple hardware, software and services:We are in one of the most prolific periods of innovation and new products in Apple’s history. The amazing products that we’ve introduced in September and October, iPhone 5, iOS 6, iPad mini, iPad, iMac, MacBook Pro, iPod touch, iPod nano and many of our applications, could only have been created at Apple and are the direct result of our relentless focus on tightly integrating world-class hardware, software and services.Cook also promoted the highly regarded Jony Ive, placing him in charge of design for both hardware and software.Despite these efforts, Cook is still largely held to a unattainable standard — even by Apple employees, it seems. In its recent annual CEO approval rating survey, for example, Glassdoor announced this week that Tim Cook’s employee approval ranking had fallen from #1 in 2011 to #18 in 2012. Tech CEOs who placed better than Cook included:Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook (#1)Larry Page, Google (#11)Marc Benioff, Salesforce (#13)If bloggers, Wall Street analysts and even Apple employees are losing confidence in Cook, Apple customers are clearly not, driving record sales and revenues for the company — and once again ranking iPhone tops in customer satisfaction.Nor are Cook’s peers uncertain of his abilities. In a recent global survey of business directors and executives, Fortune found that Apple was the world’s “most admired company,” the world’s “most admired in innovation,” and “number 1 in product quality.”Take that, naysayers.Image of Tim Cook courtesy of Reuters Tags:#Apple#iPhone#Tim Cook Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagementcenter_img brian s hall Related Posts The Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technologylast_img read more

first_imgThe Canadian PressFormer cabinet minister Jane Philpott is asking the Speaker of the House of Commons to rule on whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau violated the rights of MPs when he expelled her and Jody Wilson-Raybould from the Liberal caucus, a move she calls a breach of federal law.Trudeau’s decision last week to eject Philpott and Wilson-Raybould was “a breach of the Parliament of Canada Act,” the newly independent MP said Tuesday on the Commons floor, because the Liberals failed to hold a legally required caucus vote following the 2015 election that would have established how such expulsions are supposed to work.A set of amendments to the Parliament of Canada Act, spearheaded by Conservative MP Michael Chong, was passed in 2015 in an effort to make it more difficult for MPs to be removed from caucus _ part of an effort to decentralize political power on Parliament Hill and put it back in the hands of rank-and-file legislators. Those rules require that after a federal election, the MPs of each party hold a vote to determine the rules for caucus expulsions. But in November 2015, after the Liberals formed government, they deferred the matter, and as a result the rules _ which would have required 90 Liberal MPs to express support for expelling Philpott and Wilson-Raybould _ were not formally adopted.“We were expelled prior to the commencement of the Liberal caucus meeting,” Philpott told the House as she registered her complaint with Regan, a procedure known as a point of privilege.“The prime minister’s words that night to the Liberal caucus are important to underscore, because expulsion should not be his decision to take unilaterally. However, the decision had been already made.”Members of Parliament are not accountable to the leader but rather the leader is accountable to members of Parliament, Philpott said.“This is a constitutional convention” _ one so important that it has been codified in the Parliament of Canada Act, she added. When later asked about Philpott’s complaint, Trudeau acknowledged that the decision to expel the pair was his alone, but one he made after consulting caucus members: “The will of caucus was very clear, but I made the decision.”Regan told Philpott he would consider her argument and report back to the House later. He has already ruled on a related question involving another former Liberal, Toronto-area MP Celina Caesar-Chavannes, who quit the Liberal caucus last month. In that ruling, the Speaker found that “asking the House to deal with the possible expulsion of a member from caucus is not a proper subject for a question of privilege” and it’s not his place to interpret the law, only the rules of the House of Commons.Philpott said that since she and Wilson-Raybould were kicked out of caucus, and didn’t leave voluntarily, their situation is different.Wilson-Raybould believes she was moved out of the prestigious justice portfolio to Veterans Affairs in a mid-January cabinet shuffle as punishment for refusing to intervene to stop the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin on bribery charges related to contracts in Libya. She has testified that she faced relentless pressure last fall from Trudeau, his office, the top public servant and others to override the director of public prosecutions, who had decided not to invite the Montreal engineering giant to negotiate a remediation agreement, a kind of plea bargain.Wilson-Raybould quit the cabinet in mid-February and Philpott followed a few weeks later, saying she had lost confidence in the government over its handling of the SNC-Lavalin file. But both MPs remained members of the Liberal caucus until last week. The revelation that Wilson-Raybould had surreptitiously recorded a phone conversation with Michael Wernick, the clerk of the Privy Council, to bolster her contention of undue pressure was the last straw for Liberal MPs, who openly called on Trudeau to expel the former ministers. On April 2, Trudeau called the secret recording “unconscionable,” proof that the ex-minister could no longer be trusted.Despite the best efforts of Liberals, the months-old SNC-Lavalin controversy keeps finding its way back to the headlines. On Sunday, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer revealed that Trudeau’s lawyer had sent him a libel notice, demanding he retract his claims that the prime minister had lied to Canadians and interfered with the SNC prosecution. Scheer made clear he has no such plans.Trudeau, asked about the legal threat, said Tuesday that with an election coming up, it’s important that politicians be discouraged from twisting the truth and distorting reality.“You can’t be lying to Canadians,” said Trudeau. “It’s not something we’re going to put up with.”last_img read more

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, TCI, October 6, 2016 – Matthew tearing at Grand Bahama, residents say the winds are terrifying.  An unexpected encounter and a different class of storm is how a manager at the Emergency Operations Center set up at the NIB in Freeport, Grand Bahama described Hurricane Matthew just moments ago.Magnetic Media was able to speak to Tammi Mitchell who confirmed that ‘yes,’ roofs of storm shelters have been compromised. At the Foster B.  Pestaina Centre of the Christ the King Anglican Pro Cathedral, where 72 special needs patients are housed with 14 volunteers, they are praying that the roof does not blow away. Hurricane Matthew is so fierce that they cannot evacuate, even though the roof is partially torn off the building, as the Royal Bahamas Defense Force is standing by in the event the near 100 mph winds rips the covering away.  Mitchell says then, they will have to make a dash for it, somehow.Jack Hayward High school gym is also with a compromised roof, there are 19 people at that shelter.  Eight Mile Rock High school gym has a leaking roof, and there are 112 people housed at that shelter.  All individuals are accounted for says Ms. Mitchell, and are well.At the Cancer Association on West Atlantic Drive, the 40 people there and the structure are fine; at the St Georges’ High, the 112 people are fine and so is the structure.  Mitchell confirmed that this is not the same report for many in South Bahamia, North Bahamia and Caravel Beach where there are many calls coming in for roofs being ripped off in Cat4 Matthew. There were valiant petitions, including video tailor-made to demonstrate the level of danger for West End which is the part of the island expected to feel the worst lashing from this dangerous hurricane; still some stayed in the fishing village.  Tammi Mitchell confirmed that a lot of the residents did leave the West End coastal area which is, as she put it, ‘under water again.’It was a better account for the eastern end of the islands, where only seven people remained in Pelican Point; even Sweeting’s Cay residents heeded officials call to evac, and did so ahead of Matthew.Grand Bahama often gets it, and according to Kirk James of the meteorology department, he explained that there is about 90 minutes more of the battering at 98 mph winds and then its onto the Tropical Storm force winds.  The latest National Hurricane Center model puts the eye of Category 4 Matthew just off the coast of Hunters in Grand Bahama. For some both power and water are off.
